Show Synopsis: The Venture of 1620 is the unbelievable, yet true story of the Pilgrims’ escape from religious persecution to the New World. Through the story of William Bradford, William Brewster, and other dedicated Pilgrims comes a strong reminder of the need to remember our posterity and be thankful for the price that was paid for our religious freedoms. This is a filming of the Venture of 1620 Performance in Plymouth, MA in 2014.

TIPS FOR AUDITIONING:

The audition starts with your introduction and an optional prepared piece, such as a poem or monologue, which should be memorized. Following this, you will participate in semi cold reads, acting out scenes from the audition scripts provided on the spot. You are welcome to practice these ahead of time.

Feel free to stay and help others read during their auditions. If time allows, we will also do some basic theater exercises.

Here are some tips to help you shine:

1       Character Preference: if you have preference make sure we know.  Please list them in order of preference.

2       What to wear: Wear something comfortable. It’s okay to nod to the character description in ways that help you get in character, but full costumes are not recommended. For example, if you want to tip your hat, feel free to wear one, but don’t buy one for this.

3       Stay Calm and Bold: Don’t worry about nerves; they can give you energy and focus. This is a time to make bold choices and have fun. Be coachable, project your voice, and don’t be hard on yourself if you make a mistake. Remember, we’re here to support you!  If you make a mistake, roll with it.

4       Ask Questions: Clarify any doubts beforehand to reduce anxiety. If you need a few tips for dealing with nerves, feel free to reach out during or after the audition.

    5.  If you are auditioning by video.  Please do at least two scenes.  Try to make different choices and have the video in by the last day of auditions as we try to get a first draft of casting done as soon as auditions close.

         6. You are auditioning from the moment you enter the room until the moment you leave.  Participating, taking direction and listening carefully throughout the process will help us to know what kind of part to put you into.

Warm regards,

The Audition Panel

OTHER DRAMA OPPORTUNITIES AT LIGHTHOUSE FELLOWSHIP

The Passion of Christ SOMD for 2025 is past but we look forward to doing it again next year. Please go to Passion of Christ SOMD for downloadable pages and information or Passion of Christ SOMD Facebook.

At Lighthouse Fellowship, we love opportunities to present the gospel through drama.  Some are directly sharing the gospel, such as the Passion of Christ, others share through representing people of good character and the problems they face.  We use a number of different styles of drama to do this.  Because we believe in the unity of Christians across denominations and buildings, we invite others to join us.

For all of these a parent or an adult designated in writing by the parents must be with each minor at the rehearsals and productions.

Lighthouse players – we currently do a skit once per month for our church.  The group usually includes individuals who are not part of our church.   It has people of all ages and different skills.

In the past, we have occasionally done skits at another church when asked or in other venues.  We write our own scripts and participants can help with that.

Commitment – one month at a time, we generally perform on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

Run by Andy Rogers

Within reason, scripts are written to accommodate the actors participating.  Since we own the scripts, we can make changes at any time.

Rehearsals, generally each Tuesday evening at 8.

Christmas play.

We did a bit of an extravaganza of a Christmas service in 2024 and will plan to repeat it in 2025, but set so as not to conflict with participants church services.  The script is fun, set in a shopping mall.  It includes singing and acting and an important message, that all will bow before Christ.   In fact, that’s the title – Every Knee Shall Bow.

One advantage of a mall is that each program participating can set up a booth that the audience can visit before or after the production.  So, in this case, churches that want to, or other organizations, could set up booths.  We had a functional coffee shop, a toy store, a Christian shop, a kiddie area (nursery) and, really, anything the imagination can come up with.  The script usually uses 4 adults and about 8 kids (teens and younger) plus as many as want to be carolers.  Some years we may alternate this with a much more serious story of Christmas.

The Passion of Christ

Between 2009 and 2019 we produced the story of Jesus’ Passion outdoors 11 times on Easter weekend and we have started it up again.  The script is an original written or constructed out of Bible verses by Andy Rogers and a few others.

This is a major production, requiring about 60 actors, mostly teens or adults, with a few parts for children and tells the story of the last week of Jesus earthly life.

There is a Facebook page Passion of Christ Southern Maryland) where we hope to publish information soon. There is a promotional video from 2017 on Youtube that you can watch although some of the details will have changed.  It was always a multichurch, community-wide effort and spread the gospel to non-believers.  Easter comes in early April in 2026 so we will start organizing it in January.  Auditions will occur in late February followed by 5 weeks of rehearsal and the shows.

If you would be interested in participating in any of these activities or just have questions, please use our contact page.
